The Sheriff of Nottingham is a fun and engaging game for all where each player will have the chance to step into the shoes of the Sheriff himself! Other players, acting as Merchants will attempt to bring their goods into the city for profit. Beware though, while many may act as honest merchants, there is always the possibility of contraband being smuggled into the city! Experience Nottingham in a whole new way! Declare your goods, deal with the Sheriff and secure victory in a fun-filled and exciting adventure!

The winner at the end of the game is decided by the wealthiest merchant. Within each round, players have to perform these actions:

  • Restock your goods: Players can choose to discard and restock their current hand with goods from either the deck or the face-up pile.
  • Load your Bag: After deciding on your inventory, players then load a number of items into their bag and snap it closed.
  • Declaration: Handing the bag to the Sheriff, players then declare what's in the bag to the Sheriff. Rules for declaring are: You must declare the real number of goods in the bag, and only one kind of legal good. (So if you had 4 items you cannot declare 3, and if you had 2 illegal goods and 2 real goods, you would then declare "Four Apples/Chickens/Cheese/Bread"
  • The Sheriff: Players take turns assuming the role of Sheriff throughout the game. So after a player declares, the Sheriff can then decide to inspect the bag, or leave it closed. Players are encouraged at this stage to make deals, bribe the Sheriff with a bit of coin, or play innocent. After the Sheriff has checked the Merchant’s bags, penalties are paid out (if any) and goods successfully brought into Nottingham are added to the Merchant’s stands to be counted as points at the end of the game!

The rounds continue until everyone has been a Sheriff twice.
